Detox and Weight loss workshop for all

01.05.2008 12:34

Invitation to join our Detox and Weight Loss Group
6 weeks June and July to get in shape for Summer

If you’re keen to shed those extra pounds put on in the winter, look good in a swimsuit or you really need some extra support to stay on a healthy programme I suggest you come and join in. The aim of the programme will be to provide some education around this whole subject and also to discuss in a group setting ways of overcoming some of the obstacles that really get in the way and block us from achieving our goals. The programme is open to you as well as your friends and family, because we know that it’s often more fun to come with someone you know.

The dates will be:
Tuesday 10th June, 17th June and 24th June with a week gap followed by
Tuesday 8th July, 15th July and 22nd July.

The sessions will be held at:
The Health Doctors, 4 Duke Street, W1

The groups will start at 6.30pm and last one and half hours. There will be a nominal fee of £10 per person each week.

As space is limited it would be helpful if you could let us know if you’re planning to come so that we don’t have to turn anyone away on the day. To book please call 0207 224 2423 and speak to our receptionist.

I look forward very much to seeing you there. We will be looking for results but we plan on having a lot of fun in the process too.

With best wishes,

Mary Strugar
Consultant Nutritionist

Anti cancer vaccine now available

01.04.2008 12:34

vaccination
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer amongst young women in the UK, and thanks to this new vaccine, teenagers and young women can now be 100% protected against infection with the two viruses most commonly linked to cervical smear abnormalities and cervical cancer itself (Human Papilloma Virus 16 and 18).

Gardasil® (Sanofi Pasteur MSD, Lyon, France) also protects against the less common HPV strains 6 and 11 that can also occasionally cause smear problems, and infection with genital warts, a sexually transmitted infection.

The vaccine is recommended for girls and women aged between 9 and 26 years, although it can be considered in older women who are at particular risk of infection and have not previously been exposed to the virus. The vaccine is given in 3 doses over a six month period. Each dose is an injection given by your Gynaecologist.

Please contact us if you wish to have the vaccine, or to arrange it for your daughter(s). The vaccine is not currently available on the National Health service, but may be funded by some private health insurance companies.

Resolving the sperm donor problem in the UK

01.03.2008 12:34

sperm donation
The law governing sperm donation in the UK changed two years ago, at a time when donor numbers were already falling. The removal of anonymity for men donating sperm has dissuaded volunteers from coming forward to the extent that the UK now has a donor sperm supply crisis. Although advances in fertility treatment over the past 20 years now permit men who could only use donated sperm previously, to be able to father their own biological children, there is still a requirement for donated sperm in some instances. Couples where the man cannot produce any sperm, or when the sperm carries a genetic abnormality, often choose to use donated sperm. Lesbian couples and single women are also increasingly seeking help to start a family.

The HFEA who govern Fertility treatment in the UK, have virtually banned the importation of sperm from other countries, and unless a donor match can be found, patients are often forced to go abroad for treatment. We have good links with a reputable University based clinic in Spain, and can arrange treatment there for you. Most of the treatment and monitoring can be provided at 1 Harley St. A day trip to Spain is required to register at the clinic initially, and then another visit for 1-3 days is planned when the insemination or IVF is due.

Please contact us if you are interested in having Fertility treatment using donor sperm in Spain.

We can of course access some sperm within the UK if you prefer, but this might mean waiting for your treatment. Alternatively some patients choose their own known donor to donate on their behalf. We would be delighted to discuss this possibility with both you and your potential donor.
