Resolving the sperm donor problem in the UK

sperm donation
The law governing sperm donation in the UK changed two years ago, at a time when donor numbers were already falling. The removal of anonymity for men donating sperm has dissuaded volunteers from coming forward to the extent that the UK now has a donor sperm supply crisis. Although advances in fertility treatment over the past 20 years now permit men who could only use donated sperm previously, to be able to father their own biological children, there is still a requirement for donated sperm in some instances. Couples where the man cannot produce any sperm, or when the sperm carries a genetic abnormality, often choose to use donated sperm. Lesbian couples and single women are also increasingly seeking help to start a family.

The HFEA who govern Fertility treatment in the UK, have virtually banned the importation of sperm from other countries, and unless a donor match can be found, patients are often forced to go abroad for treatment. We have good links with a reputable University based clinic in Spain, and can arrange treatment there for you. Most of the treatment and monitoring can be provided at 1 Harley St. A day trip to Spain is required to register at the clinic initially, and then another visit for 1-3 days is planned when the insemination or IVF is due.

Please contact us if you are interested in having Fertility treatment using donor sperm in Spain.

We can of course access some sperm within the UK if you prefer, but this might mean waiting for your treatment. Alternatively some patients choose their own known donor to donate on their behalf. We would be delighted to discuss this possibility with both you and your potential donor.
